Keep Me Yours At Night

and when the morning comes,
teach me about patience!

reveal to me the benefits
of waiting–
O God,
give me grace!

my dry nature responds
to the moisture in dreams,
my seven heads
cling to my bedsheets,
desperate for leavening–

I need
bread from heaven,
a salve for my
disparate needs–
show me what
real value is,
show me what
reality means!

I keep watering
the seeds of gross desire
with potions flammable,
driving the embers
of my burning spirit
to the ceiling and
out the window,

O Lord,
keep the flames low–
bolster my
deepening devotion–
forgive

your son
